IPVS 2010
From : 09th December 2010 To 11th December 2010

The Indian pump manufacturers have an added advantage in catering to the global market needs. As they have proved themselves on the quality front, the Indian pump industry has been given global recognition. This has been further consolidated by the fact that India has successfully hosted world-class exhibitions for Industrial Pumps, Valves and Systems.

With its third successive hosting, IPVS - organized by Orbitz Exhibitions Ltd. - has clearly emerged as India’s biggest event for Industrial Pumps, Valves and Systems and one of the biggest in Asia. After having been credited as the first of its kind in India, it has since inception, provided the much needed boost for growth of the sectors it represents as it showcases advanced technologies in those categories.

IPVS 2009 was held recently between 29th & 31st October at Mumbai. It was inaugurated by
Mr. Krishna Kumar, President of IPMA. It had delegates from India and abroad comprising professionals from diverse sectors like power, oil exploration, pharmaceuticals, energy resources, fertilizers, health & hygiene products and the like.

Riding on the success of its predecessor, IPVS 2009 was bigger, more incisive and impressive. Many of its earlier exhibitors had booked larger pavilions compared to last year. With close to 100 exhibitors of which 10 % were from overseas, there were over 3000 high net worth visitors including delegations from Germany, China etc. Major Indian manufacturers of Industrial Pumps, Valves and Process Systems, like Kirloskar Brothers, Five Bro and BDK , to name just a few, collectively presented a comprehensive range of 1000-plus products on a single platform. One striking observation was that the exhibits of valves outnumbered pumps and systems.

This particular hosting was marked by a high percentage of serious-minded visitors, mainly decision makers from top companies, industry consultants, etc. As a result more deals and joint ventures were committed and formalised. 85% of the exhibitors at IPVS 2009 were extremely impressed with the elaborate setting and arrangements, the response and the visitor promotion. Interestingly, a significant number of overseas visitors also expressed genuine intent of exhibiting at IPVS 2010.

Brand IPVS has already laid the platform for the great lift off for the Indian pump industry. Those associated with the industry, who missed the opportunity to benefit from IPVS 2009, ought to make good by confirming their participation at IPVS 2010.

FUTURE SUPPLY CHAIN STRATEGIES
From : 14th July 2010 To 16th July 2010

India’s ascending fortunes in the manufacturing sector over the last few years have opened several opportunity windows for the logistics market. This trend is likely to gain pace as the global economic slowdown gradually recedes and India emerges as one of the earliest major economies to recover from this recession. This fast-paced growth of the industrial sector, coupled with the more sturdy progress of the agricultural sector, has necessitated extensive supply chains across the country to facilitate sourcing and distribution of production.

Frost & Sullivan finds that the total logistics market in India earned revenues of $75.19 billion in 2009, representing about 6.2 percent of the country’s GDP. The market is expected to reach $120.42 billion in 2014, witnessing a CAGR of 9.9 percent between 2009 and 2014. Transportation segment accounts for close to 62.0 percent of the total market reiterating the fact that it is the most important logistics function for all industries. Further, agricultural sector accounts for slightly over half of the total logistics market in India, owing to the extensive storage and transportation activities associated with agro products within the country.

However, Indian logistics service providers (LSPs) lag significantly below end-user expectations on key performance criteria such as attitude of staff, process improvement capabilities and material safety. The performance benchmarking of Indian LSPs, which is based on the ratings provided by leading end users from eight key industry sectors in the country revealed that LSPs performed well above user expectations on a few key parameters such as fleet size, vehicle quality, number of warehouses, and warehouse size. With regard to aspects such as value addition, consignment tracking facility, and cost saving initiatives, LSP performance came close to end-user expectations. Inability of LSPs to keep pace with evolving volumes of end users and the lack of multimodal transpiration capabilities are other impediments and concerns the end users are facing.
